Overview

Inside The Book

My story began in a comparatively junior role within the corporation. Over the years, I diligently worked towards not only mastering my duties but also demonstrating leadership potential and establishing a reputation for dependability and productivity. My promotion to District Manager marked a substantial shift in my career trajectory. I transitioned from functioning as an individual contributor to a leadership role responsible for the entire district and its personnel.

Imagine you're embarking on a new journey, say, relocating to a new country. It's challenging. But with your family by your side, providing unwavering support and constant encouragement, these challenges somehow seem manageable. Their faith in you and your shared parental responsibilities can become a powerful driving force in your professional journey.

Limited access to modern resources and opportunities within my cultural background has hindered progress and innovation. Overcoming these limitations requires creativity and resourcefulness, which, while fostering problem-solving skills, can also pose substantial roadblocks to financial literacy.

In the realm of teamwork and collaboration, this principle plays a significant role. Treating everyone—be it a colleague, a subordinate, or a superior—with the same respect and fairness I desire has always been a top priority for me. This attitude cultivates a positive and collaborative work atmosphere, fostering a sense of unity within the team where everyone feels valued and their contributions recognized.

In Patience And Propserity, You Will Learn

Our tight-knit community was the backdrop of my formative years. Picture this - a life that danced to the rhythm of farming seasons. Our days were filled with the toil of planting and caring for crops, tending to livestock, and all the hustle and bustle that comes along with it. It was hard work, no doubt, but there was a certain satisfaction in seeing the fruit of our labor.

Another exciting incident from my youth revolves around a community superstition. It was widely believed that the first person to purchase food from a vendor could influence the day. Once, after I bought food from a vendor, she witnessed a surge in sales and started seeking me out daily, even when I had no plans to purchase anything. This was a fascinating experience, and it made me realize that I had a unique skill or "superpower" that could be used to sell effectively in various situations. I learned the power of persuasion and the potential to influence people.

In my quest for knowledge, I stumbled upon various books that broadened my perspective and enriched my understanding of the world. One was "Rich Dad, Poor Dad," a book that introduced me to financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The lessons I gleaned from this book were transformative. They taught me the importance of budgeting, investing, and managing debt, skills that are indispensable in today's world.

This professional voyage at NNPC did more than accelerate my career growth; it enriched my understanding of the significance of networking and polished my leadership acumen. These lessons continue to influence and guide my professional journey, shaping me into the leader I am today.

At some point in my career, I moved to the United States. This was a setback, manifested by my educational degree not being directly applicable in the States. Coupled with the daunting responsibility of being a single mother raising my four children, it was a very difficult time in my life. This period was fraught with challenges, but it was also a turning point.

It is a large factor in how I overcame difficult times – my children. Isn't it amazing how knowing that your family depends on you can fuel your determination? It's as if you're being given a purpose, a reason to work harder and strive for success. It's this presence, this constant sense of support, that not only influences your career decisions but also gives you the strength to overcome any obstacle that comes your way.

Interestingly, the importance of financial literacy became even more apparent during an event at the United Nations in New York three years ago. This experience further cemented the conviction that no matter how skilled one might be in one's career, without a basic understanding of financial concepts and the ability to make informed financial decisions, it would be challenging to succeed. This realization was crucial in shaping my perspective and further fueled my drive to educate myself and build my financial competency.

Limited access to modern resources and opportunities within my cultural background has hindered progress and innovation. Overcoming these limitations requires creativity and resourcefulness, which, while fostering problem-solving skills, can also pose substantial roadblocks to financial literacy.

When it comes to client relations, the Golden Rule is equally important. I constantly strive to understand my client's needs and expectations, and I make it a point to deliver the same level of service and respect I'd want if I were in their position. This approach not only strengthens relationships but also cultivates trust and fosters long-term partnerships.

Having a learning mindset is key. Be open to new experiences and be eager to learn from them. Whether it's enrolling in a course, attending a workshop, or simply reading a book that expands your knowledge, it's all contributing to your personal and professional growth. Embrace opportunities that challenge your understanding, push your limits, and ultimately help you grow.
